Reflections from the Writing for High Impact Journals Workshop

Writing is not just about publishing, it is about ensuring research influences real lives. Attending the Writing for High-Impact Journals Workshop, organised by ESSA, REAL Centre, Kenyatta University, and Compare Journal in Nairobi, Kenya, transformed how I approach both.

What stood out most was the community, educators and researchers from across countries exchanging ideas and experiences. It reinforced that writing is not an individual task, but a collective effort to amplify voices and shape change.

The sessions not only sharpened my skills but also strengthened my resolve. I am now committed to ensuring that the realities of learners with special needs in early years in Kenya are heard globally through purposeful writing. 

A highlight was engaging with mentors who guided us through the writing process, from structuring arguments to positioning papers for high-impact journals such as Compare. This practical guidance made the publication process feel more accessible and achievable.

Words can build bridges , and I am committed to using them to ensure that important education issues are heard. We need more researchers to invest not just in what they research, but in how they communicate it.
