IVORIANS FORGE AHEAD WITH DIGITAL EDUCATION SHOWCASE
By Peter Burdin
Abidjan is preparing to host what will be one of Africa’s largest e-learning conferences this year – it’s another sign of how Cote d’Ivoire is embracing technology to improve its education system.
e-Learning Africa is part of an initiative supported by the Ivorian government to boost digital learning and the use of technology in education. Côte d’Ivoire, which has a dedicated Ministry of Digital Economy, already has a vibrant ICT sector which represents almost 8% of the country’s GDP. By 2020 this is estimated to reach 15%.
The Ivorian government has made the digitisation of its customs, taxation and health sectors a priority. It has also distributed digital health cards and vaccination records.
In education it has set up a Virtual University for e-learning along with a so-called Digital Youth Foundation to combat youth unemployment.
Later this year education professionals will converge on Abidjan to take part in what is called Africa’s largest conference devoted to the use of digital technology in education.
At the e-Learning Africa conference delegates will see for themselves Côte d’Ivoire’s commitment to tech-based solutions which has led some observers to call it “Africa’s Start-up Nation”.
The 14th eLearning Africa conference will take place from 23-25 October 2019 in Abidjan. Further details
