ESSA is a registered charity in the United Kingdom (Registration: 1166958) and is regulated by the Charity Commission.

ESSA LBG is registered as a company limited by guarantee in Ghana (Company number CG034110622) and as a non-profit in Ghana (Non-profit licence number NPOS/GRO1/LNO552/23), with oversight from a National Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees in Ghana is comprised entirely of current and former Trustees and representatives of the Senior Leadership Team of the charity, ensuring that ESSA maintains control.
