Izel joined ESSA from the People's Action for Learning (PAL) Network, where she was the Senior Programme Officer, Advocacy and Communications.  

She was responsible for amplifying the Network's voice for the need for equitable and inclusive policies and strategies in foundational literacy and numeracy for lifelong learning for all.  

Izel previously worked with Twaweza East Africa and Uwezo, where she was instrumental in sharing evidence and data with various audiences at national and regional levels to bolster education opportunities for children. 

She holds a certificate in Civic Leadership from Kansas State University in the USA and a Bachelor’s degree in Education Arts from Egerton University, Kenya. She is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Education Management at Strathmore University in Kenya.  

Beyond the region, she is a 2017 Mandela Washington Fellow for Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI).
