The Unlocking Data Initiative is a collaborative effort led by the Zizi Afrique Foundation, in partnership with Education Sub-Saharan Africa (ESSA), EdTech Hub, Effective Basic Services (eBase), and the University of Malawi’s Center for Educational Research and Training (CERT) to enhance access to and utilisation of education data across Africa.

By fostering a community of practice among African scholars, NGOs, national statistics offices, and policymakers, the initiative seeks to improve data availability and analytical capacity, thereby driving educational improvements for young people.


Key Questions We Will Explore

  • What does the foundational learning data and evidence ecosystem look like in Cameroon, Kenya and Malawi?

  • What innovative approaches are being adopted in these regions?

  • What challenges remain, and how can we overcome them together?


Key Objectives of the Event

  • Presenting a situational analysis of foundational learning in Kenya, Malawi and Cameroon

  • Identify data-driven pathways for enhancing foundational learning.

  • Foster multi-stakeholder collaboration for evidence-based educational policies and practices.

  • Discuss lessons learned from existing foundational learning initiatives, using data to benchmark success, understand challenges, and inform scaling strategies.
