The State of Women Leading Report

Our report addresses the current challenges and recommendations in promoting female leadership in universities and colleges.

ESSA WL Report

We have launched our State of Women Leading Report which addresses the current challenges and recommendations in promoting female leadership and the pandemic response, for the tertiary education sector.

Our Women Leading project aims to unlock the potential of female leaders in education. Our focus is on increasing the number of women in leadership positions within universities and colleges and supporting female students to develop leadership skills for their career beyond college or university.

In 2019, we led a study on higher education staff and academics in Ghana and found out that only 8% of Professors in Ghana are women. This pattern is similar across sub-Saharan Africa. In 2020, we led further research into the barrier's women face gaining leadership skills and roles – through desk-top research, interviews and a survey.

We would like to thank all the networks, organizations and individuals for their participation in our Women Leading research.

We hope you find our report useful to your work and leadership journey. Please remember to share with your networks too.
